Sherwood Lake Club Poker Rules

1. Hosting Responsibilities

  • Rotation

Hosting duties rotate among members on a monthly basis. If a member cannot host during their assigned month, they must arrange a swap with another member.

  • Preparation

The host is responsible for setting up the playing area, providing a clean and comfortable environment, and ensuring all necessary poker supplies (cards, chips, tables) are available.

  • Refreshments

The host should provide basic refreshments, including snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. Members are encouraged to bring additional food or drinks to share.

2. Cost to Play

  • Buy-In Amount

The standard buy-in is set at $50 per player. This amount should be agreed upon by all members and can be adjusted by consensus.

  • Payment

Buy-in fees should be collected before the start of the first hand. No play is allowed until all players have contributed their buy-in.

3. Re-Buy Rules

  • Re-Buy Cost

Players who lose all their chips may buy back into the game for $50. This option is available only during the first hour of play or until the first break, whichever comes first.

  • Limit

Each player is allowed a maximum of two re-buys per game to maintain the competitive balance.

4. Game Structure

  • Game Type

The primary game is Texas Hold’em. However, the host has the option to introduce different poker variations (Omaha, Seven-Card Stud) if all players agree.

  • Blinds

The game starts with blinds set at $1/$2. Blinds will increase every 30 minutes, with the next level being $2/$4, then $4/$8, etc., unless otherwise agreed upon by the group.

  • Dealer Button

The dealer button rotates clockwise after each hand. The host can serve as the initial dealer or designate another player.

5. Player Conduct

  • Respect

All players are expected to treat each other with respect and maintain a friendly atmosphere. Any form of cheating, inappropriate behavior, or aggressive conduct will not be tolerated.

  • Phone Use

Phones should be silenced or kept on vibrate. Excessive phone use during hands is discouraged to maintain the flow of the game.

  • Bankroll Management

Players are encouraged to play within their means. If a player consistently struggles with managing their bankroll, the group may discuss options to help or limit re-buy opportunities.

6. Payout Structure

  • Winner’s Pot

The total pot is divided among the top three players, with 60% going to first place, 30% to second place, and 10% to third place.

  • Disputes

Any disputes regarding payouts or rule interpretations should be resolved collectively by the group, with the host having the final say if needed.

7. Miscellaneous

  • Attendance

Members should RSVP for poker night at least 48 hours in advance. If a member cannot attend, they should notify the host as soon as possible.

  • Late Arrivals

Players who arrive late may join the game at the current blind level, provided they pay the full buy-in. If no seats are available, late arrivals must wait for the next game or a seat to open.

  • House Rules

Any additional house rules specific to the host should be communicated clearly at the start of the night.
